A Book of 150 Drawings inspired by 150 Years of Fountain Street Church
Join me on a year-long journey as I create a book of 150 drawings, inspired by the spirit, setting and history of a place I was born and grew within, Fountain Street Church of Grand Rapids, Michigan. 2019 marks the 150th anniversary of this amazing community, one of the leading liberal religious institutions in the nation. And a wellspring of much that flows in my heart and soul.
This book is being created and meant to be experienced sequentially. The path will wander and evolve, as the pull of my inspiration will be spontaneous and unknown to me. It may be frescoes of angels observed one Sunday morning — which is how the book opens — the words of a song, a memory, the face of a friend. Out of these sparks may cascade other associations, images, narratives or mysteries. I will say little along the way, a snatch of text here or there. As Fountain Street has taught me, the crafting of meaning is the journey. So I’ll happily leave those discoveries to each of you, as we travel together this next year.
