SWINGER 500 Art Show Video

Tony Kroes

The song "Swinger 500" by Chris and Carla, from the album "Swinger 500", played to the painting of "Swinger 500" by Tony Kroes for the art show "Swinger 500".

SWINGER 500 is…

A product of the Kimball Organ Company for the knotty pine dens of America, churning out the exotic rhythms of cha-cha and samba with a sound of corduroy brown. A purchased “escape” for staying at home, the perfect getaway.

A piece of musical art made by children of those basements. A weaving of folk, electricity and memory -- meditating on masks and the ticking of clocks, and standing alone in snowy fields.

A piece of visual art made to fit into a small suitcase. A silent partner to frame and be framed by music of masks and clocks, made by a nomad couple, journeying through the night towns and rathskellers of Europe.

A soundtrack for painting in new ways and new rhythms in northern light while it snows.  The recent meeting the revisited -- sparked by memory, and ever pushing forward against memory. An escape.

Reduction Color Print Process Illustrated

Tony Kroes

The single block (made of linoleum in this case) from which all colors and prints will be made from. The following pages show the stages of printing. Between each one, more of the block is cut away to selectively show what colors already printed will remain visible. These stack up to create the artwork. The final images are the completed work, and a detail showing the interweaving of colors achievable in this process.
